      針對近期香港民眾為爭取「真普選」、推動民主改革而發起一系列抗議活動，卻遭到香港政府以釋放催淚彈強力鎮壓並逮捕多人，民主進步黨今（30）日發表聲明如下：

 

一、        民主、人權、自由是不分國界的普世價值，追求民主是人民的權利，不應被國家限制、剝奪、甚至用暴力來壓制。民主進步黨力挺香港爭取民主，我們支持香港人民以和平的方式、堅持到底。

 

二、        人民是國家的主人，人民集會與表達意見的權利必須受到保障，我們要提醒香港政府及北京當局，國家暴力將激化衝突與對立，因此應該自我克制，誠懇傾聽人民的聲音，正面且積極地回應人民的訴求。

 

三、        近日國際社會都已普遍表達對香港情勢的關注、支持香港人民爭取民主自由。我們呼籲國際社會，應對此事持續表達關切，並透過聲援及行動來支持香港人民爭取真正普選。

 

四、        民主化浪潮正在影響亞洲，民主也是亞洲人民的共同追求，我們呼籲香港與中國政府，應相信人民的智慧，接納民主改革的訴求，民主才是確保和平穩定的基石，是確保繁榮與發展的正確道路。

  

 

 

 

Standing Strong with Hong Kong

In response to the pro-democracy demonstrations taking place across Hong Kong the Democratic Progressive Party issues the following statement:

 

1. Democracy human rights and freedom are universal values that people have the right to pursue. The DPP fully supports the people of Hong Kong in their pursuit of those values. It is essential that the people of Hong Kong are given a genuine electoral choice in both their leadership and in decisions over their future.

 

2. Fundamental rights such as the freedom of assembly and freedom of expression should be protected. The DPP calls for both the Hong Kong and Chinese governments to exercise self-restraint in dispersing the peaceful demonstrations taking place. We ask that they listen with diligence and respond positively to the views that have been expressed.

 

3. There have been increasing international attention towards the extraordinary events taking place in Hong Kong. We encourage the international community to come together to support the people of Hong Kong in their efforts towards achieving genuine electoral choice.

 

4. There is a shared desire for democracy across Asia. We call on the Hong Kong and Chinese governments to respect the constructive discussions that have taken place regarding genuine electoral choice and to honor their promise of democratic elections for the people of Hong Kong.
