The DPP Department of International Affairs held a policy briefing session for the foreign diplomatic community in Taiwan today (28th). DPP Secretary-General Lin Hsi-yao, Deputy Secretary-General Lin Fei-Fan, Legislator & Director of International Affairs Department Lo Chih-Cheng, Acting Director of Press Information Department Su Fang-Ho, and Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh shared DPP's electoral strategies to nearly 30 foreign delegates from 21 countries.
Lin Hsi-yao stated in his speech that the pandemic had affected the world for the past few years. However, under the unity of the central government and the people in Taiwan, Taiwan has handled the epidemic well, and Taiwan's economy can grow steadily.
Lin Hsi-yao pointed out that counties and cities ruled by the DPP have all achieved outstanding local achievements. There are many five-star mayors and magistrates recognized by society. Recently, the DPP has completed the nomination of 18 mayoral and magisterial candidates, all of them are the strongest ones with rich experience in politics and a true passion for local service. We believe that the DPP's insistence on "the central government achieving the best results and local governments recommending the best talents" will win people's recognition.
Lin Fei-Fan, Deputy Secretary-General of the DPP, highlighted the DPP's focus on "protecting our home, securing our future" to foreign delegates, hoping to improve local construction, make people proud of their hometowns, safeguard Taiwan's future, and provide the next generation a better environment. The DPP central and the local teams will stand together during the local election. In addition to launching new YouTube and Podcast programs to increase exposure for candidates, the DPP will also create the 2022 local election information page to integrate news and public opinion so that voters can understand the central government's achievements and the political views of local co-governance.
Apart from the nine-in-one local election, the constitutional review of extending civil rights to 18-year-olds, which will be held on the same day as local elections, is equally important to Taiwan's future. Lin Fei-Fan stated that strengthening Taiwan's constitutional democracy and promoting equal rights for all generations have always been the DPP's commitment to reform. As the first party to advocate for the constitutional review of extending civil rights to 18-year-olds, the DPP has done its best to promote it. We hope to pass the first constitutional revision referendum in history so that young people can enjoy the civil rights they deserve and Taiwan's constitutional democracy can be strengthened.
Legislator & Director of the International Affairs Department Lo Chih-Cheng mentioned that the government continues to find a balance between normal social life and epidemic control in the post-epidemic era. In terms of the economy, Taiwan's economic fundamentals have been sound under the pressure of global inflation. Compared to most countries, prices are also relatively stable in Taiwan thanks to monetary and fiscal policies.
Finally, DPP Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh said that in addition to exchanging opinions and synchronizing information with foreign diplomats, DPP policy briefing is also an essential platform for party diplomacy. Regarding the upcoming local election, the DPP is "ready to take action" and will "take the right action." We believe that the unity of our party will lead people in Taiwan to affirm us with their votes.
