Regarding the visit to Taiwan of President Biden’s special delegation consisting of former Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) and former US Deputy Secretaries of State Richard Armitage and James Steinberg, DPP spokesperson Peifen Hsieh expressed that the DPP wholeheartedly welcomes the delegation and expresses its sincere gratitude for President Biden and the US government’s support for Taiwan.
Spokesperson Hsieh stated the delegation’s members stretch across the US parties and have long paid close attention to and supported Taiwan. Former Senator Dodd was an important promoter of the legislative process of the Taiwan Relations Act. Armitage and Steinberg served as Deputy Secretaries of State under former presidents Bush Jr. and Obama, respectively, and have visited Taiwan many times.
Peifen Hsieh said that after the Biden Administration took office, Taiwan and the US have continued to deepen exchanges in various fields. It is obvious that this delegation’s cross-party senior politicians not only demonstrate the firm friendship between Taiwan and the US, but also the US’ cross-party support for Taiwan. The DPP supports and affirms such ties and will continue to support the deepening of Taiwan-US relations.
