One year has passed since, in violation of the United Nations Charter, Russia used military force to attack Ukraine. The invasion has resulted in countless civilian deaths and injuries. Speaking today, February 24th, DPP Spokesperson and International Affairs Department Director Peifen Hsieh reiterated the DPP’s strong condemnation of Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.
Spokesperson Hsieh stated that all of humanity shares in the pursuit of peace as a goal and civil value. To that end, Russia should heed the appeals of the international community and cease its invasion of Ukraine. There are no winners in war, and the DPP hopes Russian authorities will not make enemies with the rest of the world.
Spokesperson Hsieh also stated that freedom and peace are the mutually defended values of all democracies. When a peace-loving democracy receives an illegal invasion of their territory, it is our duty to stand with them.
Spokesperson Hsieh further stated that we hold a profound sympathy for the misfortune of the Ukrainian people, and a deep admiration for their courage and resolve to defend their country. Over the past year, the Taiwanese government and people have supported Ukraine through donations of money and goods. In the future, we will continue to stand with the brave people of Ukraine and work more closely with democratic partners to safeguard our joint values of peace and freedom.
