Regarding U.S. President Joe Biden, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and State Department Spokesperson Ned Price reaffirming their support for Taiwan, the DPP Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh today (20th) stated that Taiwan, as a member of the democratic alliance, sincerely thanks the U.S. for its continuous support.
Spokesperson Hsieh said that in the past five years, Taiwan-U.S. relations had achieved a higher level of exchanges in various fields such as security, economy, trade, and epidemic prevention. We thank the U.S. executive, legislative, and social sectors for their staunch support for Taiwan. The DPP cherishes this friendship between Taiwan and the U.S.
Spokesperson Hsieh further stated that, as President Biden said, the issues of Taiwan and Afghanistan are fundamentally different. The DPP calls on the KMT to stop implementing the so-called “abandonment theory” to influence the Taiwanese people’s confidence in our allies. The DPP also urges the KMT not to send the wrong message to the world and affect Taiwan’s diplomacy due to its struggle for its party chairman election. Spokesperson Hsieh emphasized that in terms of diplomacy and regional security, we expect all parties to unite, jointly uphold the values of democracy and freedom, and continue to deepen Taiwan’s partnership with the U.S. and other like-minded countries.
