Poland recently donated four hundred thousand AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan. Following this donation, the country joined Japan, the US, Lithuania, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic as vaccine donors to Taiwan. In response, DPP Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh stated that this demonstration of Taiwan-Poland friendship is especially meaningful given the gravity of the pandemic and the global shortage of vaccines.
A press release by Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that, in 2020, Taiwan donated one million medical masks, five thousand sets of protective clothing, and twenty thousand sets of surgical gowns and other pandemic prevention equipment to Poland. These donations revealed Taiwan's commitment to combating the pandemic and prompted Poland's recent vaccine donation to the country. The exchanged donations illustrate the strength of Taiwan-Poland's friendship and the development of the two countries' mutual aid.
Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh emphasized that Taiwan and many European countries share universal values such as freedom, democracy, and human rights. Indeed, on September 1, the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) published the EU-Taiwan Political Relations and Cooperation report. Recently, Lithuania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and other European countries have also strengthened their ties with Taiwan. The DPP appreciates Poland's generous donation as well as the country's readiness to face global challenges.
The Spokesperson added that the Party thanks Poland for its generosity and is grateful for the frontline diplomatic personnel working to strengthen relations between the two countries. The DPP looks forward to future exchanges with Poland and the EU. The deepening of Taiwan-Poland relations will enable the regions to provide mutual assistance in times of need.
