DPP is Grateful for Japan’s Donation of Another 1.13 Million Doses of AZ Vaccine to Taiwan

Regarding Japan’s announcement today (6th) to provide Taiwan with another 1.13 million doses of AZ vaccine, which is expected to be delivered on the 8th, to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic jointly, DPP spokesperson Peifen Hsieh stated that the DPP is touched by Japan’s goodwill and is very grateful.

Spokesperson Hsieh said that at the beginning of last month, Japan provided Taiwan with 1.24 million vaccine doses in the shortest time when urgently needed. Japan’s parliament also unanimously approved support for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly. Today, Japan showed care for Taiwanese people’s health by announcing that they will donate another 1.14 million doses of vaccine, which are expected to be delivered to Taiwan on the 8th.

At a press conference today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi reiterated Taiwan’s donations during the Great East Japan Earthquake, which was warm assistance to Japan. He also sincerely thanked Taiwan for its condolences for the landslide in Atami City, Japan. In response, Spokesperson Hsieh said there had been a long-term relationship between Taiwan and Japan, and we support each other when we encounter difficulties. There is no doubt about the friendship between the two countries.

Spokesperson Hsieh emphasized that since the outbreak of the global epidemic, due to the close interaction between the two governments, Taiwan and Japan have joined hands many times, and the collaboration has been seamless. To this end, the DPP would also like to thank Taiwan’s Representative to Japan, Frank Hsieh, and the frontline diplomatic personnel for their hard work. Meanwhile, we also call on the opposition parties to stop stigmatizing vaccines donated by our allies, distorting the wonderful friendship between Taiwan and Japan.

In addition, Spokesperson Hsieh said that we hope all residents can be safe after the landslide in Atami. Based on the spirit of mutual assistance between Taiwan and Japan, we will always be ready to provide necessary assistance to Japan.
