The Department of International Affairs of the DPP is holding a two-day “Road to Diversity” camp for international students in Taiwan today (4th). DPP Spokesperson and deputy director of the DPP Department of International Affairs, Peifen Hsieh, stated that students were active in registering for the camp and the composition of the students was very diverse, which echoed the theme of the camp. A total of more than 70 international students signed up, and nearly 30 students from 8 countries and 12 schools were admitted eventually.
Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh said that the DPP International Affairs had held the “Road to Democracy” camps for international students several times before, establishing a good reputation among those students. With the theme of the history of Taiwan and multiculturalism, the DPP International Affairs further designed and held the “Road to Diversity” camp. During this 2-day event, international students will visit various historical and cultural attractions in Tainan, including the National Museum of Taiwan History, Museum of Archaeology in Tainan, Tainan Art Museum, and National Museum of Taiwan Literature.
In the opening ceremony of the camp this morning, the DPP Deputy Secretary-General Feifan Lin welcomed the international students who participated in the camp through a pre-recorded video. Deputy Secretary-General Lin said different cultures and ethnic groups have jointly shaped Taiwan in its long history. Until today, we have constantly been interacting with like-minded international friends, sharing the diverse culture of Taiwanese society, and this camp is the best demonstration.
When participants introduced themselves, some said that they had just arrived in Taiwan for a month, while others had been studying in Taiwan for years. Regardless, they all agreed that the most beautiful scenery in Taiwan is its people— the tolerance and kindness of the Taiwanese. Many students mentioned that through this camp, they hope to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s history and culture.
Spokesperson Hsieh further stated that this camp represents the depth and breadth of the DPP in the diplomatic field: externally, the DPP actively establishes partnerships with countries with similar values around the world; internally, it connects with international students in Taiwan to deliver Taiwan’s diverse values.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage around the world, the camp originally scheduled to be held this summer was postponed until now. Spokesperson Hsieh added that various epidemic prevention measures would be implemented with the highest standards throughout the camp.
