In response to the U.S. invitation for Taiwan to attend the virtual U.S. Summit for Democracy, DPP Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh expressed her gratitude. The opportunity will enable Taiwan to participate alongside other democratic nations and support the global preservation of democracy.
The Spokesperson added that the international community affirms the development of Taiwan's democracy. Last year, as a U.S. presidential candidate, President Joseph Biden wrote to the Chinese-language newspaper "World Journal" in praise of Taiwan and its democracy. In March, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also promised before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives that Taiwan would be invited to the Summit for Democracy. Further, the White House National Security Council emphasized in its annual "Interim National Security Strategic Guidance" the success of Taiwan's democracy. Other senior White House officials also confirmed this position.
The upcoming Summit has received international attention. Taiwan Minister without Portfolio Audrey Tang and Taiwan Representative to the U.S. Hsiao Bi-khim, along with more than 100 other democratic government representatives, will attend the event. Summit attendees will discuss how to safeguard democracy, combat corruption, and advance human rights.
The DPP hopes to use this opportunity to share its democratic success story with other participants. The Party thanks President Biden for his extended invitation and will continue contributing to the international community's greater good.
