Regarding Taiwan’s donation of 10,000 oximeters, 1,008 oxygen generators, and other medical supplies to Japan yesterday (16th), Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga immediately expressed his gratitude in Chinese and Japanese on Twitter. DPP Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh stated that Taiwan and Japan’s mutual assistance in epidemic prevention demonstrated the spread of the “virtuous cycle.”
Spokesperson Hsieh pointed out that whether it was Taiwan’s donation of masks to Japan at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak last year, Japan’s five announcements of vaccine donation to Taiwan since June this year, or Taiwan’s donation of oximeters and oxygen generators this time, it shows that the people of the two countries are determined to help each other and overcome the pandemic together. Prime Minister Suga’s tweet emphasized, “every time we face the threat of natural disasters and epidemics, Japan and Taiwan have always worked together in a humanitarian spirit, and have cultivated a firm friendship in this process,” which is proof of the “virtuous cycle.” However, people with malicious intent smeared Japan’s kindness by saying that Taiwan is reduced to a “vaccine beggar.” Regarding this statement, Spokesperson Hsieh opined that nothing could be further from the truth.
She emphasized that Taiwan has provided Japan with necessary assistance in epidemic prevention in the middle of the pandemic, showing the spirit of “Taiwan Can Help” and repaying Japan’s goodwill in donating vaccines one after another. We look forward to continued collaboration with Japan to overcome the pandemic.
