President of the Czech Senate Miloš Vystričil and his 89-person delegation arrived in Taiwan today (30th). Mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib, one of the members of this delegation, is visiting Taiwan for the second time in a year and a half. The DPP extends an enthusiastic welcome to the delegation.
DPP Spokesperson Peifen Hsieh expressed that in addition to the recent progress in relations with the US, the DPP government will also develop positive ties with like-minded European countries. This visit to Taiwan represents the countries’ shared hard work, resistance to China’s pressures, and the Taiwanese people’s collective wish to make the world see Taiwan’s achievements.
Spokesperson Hsieh says that President Vystrčil’s visit stands up against Beijing’s pressures by leading the highest-level Czech delegation to Taiwan since the Czech Republic became a democracy in 1989. The visit demonstrates the deep friendship between Taiwan and the Czech Republic, which have the same experience transitioning from an authoritarian government to a democracy. The democratic Czech Republic and Taiwan have cooperated in all aspects, from values, culture, and science to technology, economics, and beyond. The two nations have not been affected by a lack of formal diplomatic relations and will not flinch at China’s unreasonable suppression on the global stage.
Spokesperson Hsieh further expresses that Taiwan’s flourishing democratic developments and warm and friendly customs can leave the Czech delegation with a fantastic impression of Taiwan. Taiwan looks forward to future interactions between the two countries, further developing and strengthening the basis of their shared values of freedom and democracy.
